LG Electronics (LG) has announced it will replace all conventional magnesium inside its mobile phones with Eco-Magnesium, a new type of clean magnesium alloy, by 2012. The decision will reduce greenhouse gas emission by a factor of approximately 24,000 during the die casting process without affecting the quality of the final product. The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) developed Eco-Magnesium with funding from the government of Korea. During production, Eco-Magnesium creates practically no sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) cites as one of the most potent greenhouse gas ever encountered. Replacing conventional magnesium with Eco-Magnesium in mobile phones will reduce carbon dioxide emissions

High Pressure Die Casting Processes: The Difficulties

It is rather a daunting task for the Copper Casting designers and engineers to create stability in high pressure die-casting processes. Within approximately hundred casting process parameters, it is very difficult to identify and acknowledge the variation of each of the parameters on the final casting quality. The biggest challenge for the engineers and Aluminum Casting designers remain the counter effect of a single parameter on the rest of the other parameters and then how that collective variations effect the final casting.

The Different Scales of Hardness Testing

Hardness testing systems provide a quick and economical method of testing mechanical properties; all materials can be tested for hardness provided the correct method of test is adopted. Hardness testing offers valuable information for research and production application where material properties are an important consideration.

The hardness test measures a materials resistance to indentation and is a good reference for properties such as resistance to abrasion. Typical applications are for automotive heat treatment studies, protective and hard coating applications in aerospace and weld inspection in advanced fabrications. In this article we intend to look at the five main types of hardness testing, their history and a brief description of their industrial applications.

Guidelines For Safe Aluminium Welding

Welding metalwork sections like those made from aluminium welding process is comparatively effortless and trouble-free as it thaws out at a much lesser hotness and does not break after turning out as a rock-solid. Aluminum welding is finished in accordance with the kind of aluminum utilized such as non-heat treatable alloys including tiny amounts of magnesium (Mg) or manganese (Mn), heat treatable alloys holding, silicon copper, magnesium zinc and commercial grade aluminum having 99 percent transparency.

The majority of the work pieces made from these types of aluminum are more straightforward to weld while aluminum work pieces containing lead or copper additives are not easy to weld and over and over again show the way to cracking at the same time as welding.

Metal Castings have the luxury of choosing between several casting methods to accomplish their goals. Often times the metal caster chooses one method and sticks with it for several years until need directs him to another. Of course, there are those adventurous few who like to sample each casting method to find the best fit. Sure, sand casting might be the most popular but what about Lost Foam or Investment?

What about Die casting?

Die casting is used by industrial foundries and manufacturers to create practically anything Sand castings and everything, such as die cast cars. Many small foundries, like the one in your garage, backyard, of workshop may find that die castingsis really just not economical. But who said that having fun and trying new things was ever economical? The process of Die Casting involves a simple concept. The molten metal is injected with high pressure into the mold or mold cavities. The mold used in die casting can have several small civilities of either the same pattern or different pattern.

One of the most widely used materials in the die casting industry is Aluminum. Aluminum die casting has been an extremely flourishing industry in all parts of the world generating parts and items that have become house hold items and daily requirements tools for the masses. Aluminum die casting manufacturing units produce a plethora of products ranging from parts in automobile industries all the way to tools that are heavily used in the construction industry.

Aluminum die casting is also different from other metal die casting (http://automobile.dmc.co.kr/eng/die-casting.asp ) processes in several ways that make aluminum die casting a widely used industry standard. The primary difference is the type of mold that is being used in the Aluminum die casting manufacturing plants. The other difference in the manufacturing units is the processes and procedures used through which molten metal is delivered to the die. Other die casting manufacturing processes do not provide this type of output. Though molds can certainly be manufactured by an extensive variety of materials, dies are only made of metal. And steel is the predominant die for almost the entire die casting manufacturing units. In almost all the molds that are currently used in the industry ranging from, plaster, iron, steel, and polystyrene, Steel is the only element used as a die. The third difference between aluminum die casting and other forms of die casting is that in Aluminum die casting
